Feeding the Homeless

 | Published on Tuesday, November 23, 2010

Brooklyn, NY - November 24, 2010 - Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Incorporated continues to take pride in putting community service at the forefront of its social action agenda. This year members of the chapter got together to serve a Thanksgiving meal to those less fortunate who are living in shelters. We served food to 70+ women residing in the HELP Women's Shelter located at 116 Williams Avenue (between Liberty Avenue and Glenmore Avenue). We then packed up and served 50+ men residing in The Gathering Place Shelter located at 2402 Atlantic Avenue (corner of Bedford Avenue). The individuals were served chicken, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, baked ziti, cornbread, salad, string beans, ham, cake, cookies and pie. As our brothers served with humility and pride, the individuals being served were sincerely appreciative.

At the conclusion of the feeding we delivered groceries to a family chosen by the chapter who truly needed a helping hand. The grocery list included a turkey, cornbread, sweet potatoes, macaroni, juice, baked beans and apple pie. The family consisted of a single mother raising five girls ages 3-10 living in Roosevelt Houses. They were recently the victims of a burglary where most of there possessions were either stolen or damaged. Alpha Upsilon has pledged to provide assistance to this family during the holiday season.
