"Brooklyn Omega" Gives Christmas Cheer While Fighting Illiteracy

Brooklyn
, NY – December 11, 2010 -
The Men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. - Alpha Upsilon Chapter - “Brooklyn Omega”, Social Action Committee, collaborated with the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation to honor Restoration’s founder, Robert F. Kennedy. This annual celebration promotes literacy and healthy lifestyles in Central Brooklyn. Over 300 children ages 0 – 15 enjoyed a variety of activities, which included storytelling, petting zoo, face painting, live music, a Christmas musical and a Kwanzaa celebration.

The men of Alpha Upsilon got into the holiday spirit by distributing lunch to every family along with books and stuffed animals for every child who took part in the holiday activity. This event was attended in record numbers for an Alpha Upsilon Social Action with well over thirty Omega Men in attendance. Dignitaries in attendance included Robert Kennedy Jr., Assemblywoman Annette Robinson and Robert Cornegy (AU, Spring ’07). Robert Cornegy proudly serves as the State Committeeman/District Leader of the 56th Assembly District serving Bedford Stuyvesant, Bushwick and Crown Heights. The Committee Members for Alpha Upsilon Chapter were Brothers Robert Cornegy and Glenn Chapman. A special acknowledgement was given to Brother Robert Cornegy and the Men of Alpha Upsilon from the Restoration Corporation in recognition of their hard work and dedication during this event.
