Brothers Cleaning –Up To Improve Literacy

 | Published on Saturday, February 26, 2011

Brooklyn, New York- The Brothers of Alpha Upsilon Chapter “Brooklyn Omega” conducted a four day Project O.A.S.I.S- Assault on Illiteracy Clean-up Project at PS/IS 150 in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. The Brothers met for four hours from Wednesday, February 23rd to Saturday, February 26th at the school to organize a large book room that housed vital materials that were needed in the classroom. They were assisted by Mr. Chris Vanterpool, a school aide from another school (P.S. 375) and other young friends in turning the cluttered, disorganized area into one that resources can be readily accessible.

The assistance of the Brothers was requested by the school’s principal, Ms. Pamela Bradley-Muchere, a first year principal. She told the Brothers that she was part of an Omega Court back in college and felt that she can reach out to the Chapter to help in this cause. Of course, she was right! Ms. Bradley provided the repast for the Brothers on a daily basis as we set our minds, hearts, and sinews on the successful completion of this project.

At the conclusion of the project, she expressed her heartfelt gratitude for our service. She shared how appreciative her students and staff will be to be able to receive needed books that were not accessible due to the clutter.

It was a great day to be an Omega Man!
